Associate Veterinarian

Serving Monroe County since 1956, the Monroe County Humane Association (MCHA) is a 501c3 charitable organization dedicated to promoting the welfare of companion animals, strengthening the human-animal bond, and providing access to veterinary care and humane education across the community.

Position Summary:

The Associate Veterinarian provides compassionate, practical veterinary care focused on each patient’s medical needs and the circumstances of the family caring for them. This position may include wellness care, sick visits, diagnostics, chronic disease management, spay and neuter surgery, limited additional surgery, and end-of-life care.

We understand that clients may face nancial or personal barriers. Our veterinarians help families understand their options and develop realistic treatment plans that protect the animal’s health while respecting the client’s circumstances.

The Associate Veterinarian works closely with MCHA’s Medical Director, veterinary technicians, assistants, administrative staff, outreach team, and nonprot leadership. Full-time, part-time, and relief arrangements may be considered based on the veterinarian’s interests and MCHA’s needs.

Essential Position Duties & Responsibilities:

•       Examine, diagnose, and treat companion animals, specically cats & dogs.
•       Develop appropriate treatment plans and clearly explain options, costs, and follow-up care to clients.
•       Perform and interpret diagnostic testing, including radiography and laboratory testing.
•       Prescribe medications and provide preventive and ongoing medical care.
•       Perform spay and neuter procedures and other surgeries consistent with the veterinarian’s experience.
•       Maintain complete and accurate medical records.
•       Provide compassionate end-of-life care when treatment is no longer effective or appropriate.
•       Collaborate with staff to support pets served through MCHA’s clinic, Crisis Housing, Street Outreach, and community programs.
•       Follow professional, ethical, safety, and controlled-substance standards.
•       Contribute to a respectful, supportive, and mission-focused workplace.

Requirements

Qualications:

•       Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
•       Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in Indiana.
•       Strong clinical judgment and commitment to patient welfare.
•       Compassionate and respectful communication with clients from a wide range of circumstances.
•       Ability to work collaboratively with veterinary and nonprot team members.
•       Commitment to accessible veterinary care and MCHA’s mission.
•       Experience with Avimark is helpful but not required.
•       New graduates and experienced veterinarians are encouraged to apply.

This role offers the opportunity to practice veterinary medicine in a nonprot setting where community impact and patient needs guide the work.

Compensation and Benets:

Full-time compensation starts at $110,000 annually and increases based on experience, schedule, and services provided, including surgical care. Part time and relief compensation based on hours worked, experience and services provided.
